This edition of From the Chair reflects on the early history of the SS Explorer Preservation Society, from its formation in Aberdeen in 1994 to the efforts that saved the vessel from being scrapped and brought her safely to Leith.

As a fisheries research vessel, the SS Explorer  was involved in trawling, an industrial fishing technique where nets, or trawls, are towed through the water to catch fish. 

With storm winds on the horizon its nothing new for the SS Explorer, having braved the stormy weather and rough seas of the Scottish coasts and beyond.
